My Family Culture

                                                  My Family Culture
My 3 survive Items:

A description of the three items you would choose
Through-out my evacuation to other countries with  some of my family members. I would definitely grab these three items.
1. My wedding ring because this symbol the love my husband and I have for each other forever. Looking at it everyday would help me to remember that special feeling.
2. Quran is my religious book and this is a big part my family. The Quran holds the establishment on how a Muslim family should live .The family in Islam is a patriarchal family and the patriarch, that is to say, the head of the family, carries a tremendous burden of responsibility. Along with this responsibility he carries the burden of leadership.
3.Family Photos and Birth Cert., the reason I would take family photo because of my member of times with my family and friends.

How you would explain to others what each of these items means to you:
1.My wedding ring I would tell people this symbol my love with my husband forever.
2.Quran, is consider my Holy book in my religion and this how my family culture is base on is our religion.
3. Photos, these are my family and friends pictures and they man the world to me and I want to remember how we dress and the food we ate and many other things only with my birth cert. that stated where I was born at.

Your feelings if, upon arrival, you were told that you could only keep one personal item and have to give up the other two items you brought with you.
I would feel confused and hurt because they all have a special place in my hurt and I wouldn't know what to do.
Any insights you gained about yourself, your family culture, diversity, and/or cultural differences in general, as a result of this exercise,
My family means the world to me and so do my religion. I didn't realized how much I really follow the Quran until I was put in a situation where I would not be able to have my culture around me or my family. I never really thought about how much is installed inside of me until I am ask a certain question.

  1. Hi Darrell,
I enjoyed reading your post. You and three other classmates in our group would choose your religious book - for them, the bible, for you, the Quran. It is a great thing to have a strong faith. For me, I am still trying to figure all of that out.

You and I would both choose family photos. They are priceless, aren't they? When I think about people that I knew a long time ago, if I don't have pictures of them, I can't really remember what they looked like. Having photos would help us make sure we don't forget.

    Thanks for your post!

  2. Hello Darrell! I also chose my Bible and photos of my family! My religion is very important to me. I feel that I would need my Bible to stay connected and grounded in my religion. The family photos would be nice to have. It will definitely help me to remember my family and also give me hope that I will reunite with them again someday. Don't tell my husband, but I did not choose my wedding ring LOL. I did choose a special necklace that was given to me by my grandmother. The necklace is very special and shares the history of the females in my cultural family. I see that we both had some similarities in the 3 items that we treasure. Thank you for sharing!

  3. Hello Darrell,
I enjoyed your post. The bible has many of the same values as the quran. I feel as long as we follow something that makes us and our family structure that is the key. We are all trying to get to the same place.
I agree photo albums would be essential. It will bring to our remeberance all of the people, places and things left behind.

  5. Darrell, we both have the same two out of three..our religious books and photo albums. Both mean a lot to me and just as you, I would be devistated if i had to only choose one of the three items. It is bad enough I would only be allowed to wear the clothes I would have on, then to bombard me with the fact of choosing. I am so glad this was just an assignment, but it also makes us think of what really could happen.
